Richard Schmid's grandfather emigrated from Switzerland to Tanganyika (today Tanzania) in 1920. He himself was born and raised in Kenya by the sea near Mombasa. Even as a child he loved to explore the bush around his parents’ house with the locals. Later he discovered the African savannah on safaris with his parents and developed a love for wildlife and the vast plains of Africa.
In the meantime he has travelled to various African countries and made many tours in the African bush. His passion is East Africa. Richard Schmid completed an apprenticeship in Switzerland, later studied social work and furthered his education in business administration. But Africa has never let him go in all these years, so he always returned and started to take an interest in wildlife.
He completed his training as a safari guide in Kenya and continued his education with Monty Brett (South Africa) and Andreas Fox (Kenya). Richard Schmid lives mainly in Switzerland, is married and has two grown-up daughters. In addition to wildlife, he loves music (plays guitar), is a passionate swimmer and keeps fit with yoga
